As National School Bus Safety Week comes to a close, the Tishomingo County School District would like to recognize the dedicated individuals who help ensure our students travel safely to and from school each day.
Our school bus drivers do much more than transport students. They greet familiar faces each morning, navigate changing road conditions, maintain safe environments aboard their buses, and take on the tremendous responsibility of caring for the students entrusted to them.

It's Day 4 of National School Bus Safety Week!
While school buses are among the safest ways for students to travel, knowing what to do in an emergency is an important part of keeping everyone safe.
Our school bus drivers are trained to respond to emergencies, but students also have an important role to play.
🚦 Five Important Emergency Safety Reminders:
👂 Listen to Your Driver. Follow instructions immediately and remain calm. Your bus driver will determine the safest course of action.
🚪 Know Your Emergency Exits. Be familiar with the emergency exits on your school bus and follow your driver's instructions about when and how to use them.
🚶 Exit Safely When Instructed. If an evacuation is necessary, follow the driver's directions and avoid pushing or rushing. When evacuating through the rear emergency exit, older students may be asked to assist younger students as they exit the bus, under the driver's supervision and according to established safety procedures.
📍 Move to a Safe Location. After exiting, follow instructions to move away from the bus and remain in a designated safe area.
🤝 Stay Together. Remain with your group and follow instructions until help arrives or you are told what to do next.

Mississippi's Nathan's Law was enacted to strengthen protections for students following the tragic death of Nathan Key, a Mississippi student who was struck by a motorist while exiting his school bus.
🚦 What should Mississippi motorists know?
🛑 STOP for school buses. When a school bus displays flashing red lights or an extended stop arm, motorists must stop as required by Mississippi law.
🚗 Keep your distance. Motorists required to stop must remain at least 10 feet away from the school bus.
🛣️ Know the roadway rules. Mississippi law provides an exception for traffic traveling in the opposite direction on certain divided highways with four or more lanes. Drivers should understand the requirements before encountering a stopped school bus.

🚦 A Few Important Reminders:
🚌 Watch for school buses. Be especially cautious during morning pickup and afternoon drop-off times.
🛑 Respect the stop arm. When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, motorists must stop as required by law.
🚸 Slow down in school zones. Follow posted speed limits and remain alert for students crossing streets or entering roadways.
📵 Eliminate distractions. Keep your attention on the road, especially when children are nearby.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and today we had the BEST time pulling off a special surprise for someone who means so much to our TCCTC family — our wonderful counselor, Mrs. Heather Gaylor! 💗
Our students and staff came together for a SECRET PINK OUT to celebrate a very special milestone — Mrs. Heather's 10 YEARS as a breast cancer survivor! 🎉💪🎀
Heather is so much more than a counselor to our students and staff. She is a friend, an encourager, a listening ear, and someone who pours her heart into helping others every single day. Today, we got to turn the tables and shower HER with a little of the love she so freely gives to everyone around her!
While today was filled with pink shirts, smiles, and lots of love, we also want to remember the important message behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Early detection saves lives! Staying informed about your personal risk, discussing recommended screenings with your healthcare provider, and paying attention to changes in your body are important steps toward protecting your health. 🎀
To those currently fighting, those who have survived, those we have lost, and the families who have walked alongside them — we honor you this month and always.
Mrs. Heather, we LOVE you, we CELEBRATE you, and we are so incredibly thankful for these 10 years and many more to come! 💕🎉

Students of Integrity Scholarships 2027.
BBB Mississippi is thrilled to announce the launch of its Students of Integrity Scholarship program, which supports and empowers the next generation of leaders.
The Students of Integrity Scholarship will provide financial assistance to deserving students pursuing higher education. BBB will award three $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors attending a college/university or technical school in Mississippi.
Eligible candidates will be selected based on their academic achievements, leadership potential, extracurricular activities, and commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. The scholarship program is open to high school seniors in Mississippi.
Applications for the Students of Integrity Scholarship will open on October 15, 2026, and close on January 19, 2027.
