🦌🦺 Hunter Safety Training at TCCTC! 🦺🦆 Safety first! Our first-year students recently had the opportunity to participate in a Hunter Safety Course right here on our campus. A BIG thank you to our instructors who took the time to present this important information and help our students learn the responsibilities and safety practices that go along with hunting and outdoor activities. We also want to give a special thank you to Game Warden Lane Young for joining us and bringing hands-on materials that helped bring the lessons to life! Having professionals from our community share their knowledge and real-world experience makes learning even more meaningful for our students. We love being able to offer opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom and provide our students with practical knowledge and skills they can use for a lifetime. 🍤🔥 Culinary II is Serving Up Something Delicious! 🔥🍤 Our second-year Culinary Arts students were back in the kitchen putting their skills to work as they prepared Crispy Rice with Spicy Shrimp Salad — and the results looked amazing! 🤩 From preparing and cooking each component to assembling and presenting the finished dish, students had another opportunity to practice the hands-on skills that are such an important part of our Culinary Arts program. There’s no better way to learn culinary skills than to get in the kitchen and cook, and our second-year students are already showing us what they can do! Great job to our Culinary II students and their instructor, Ms. Heather Deaton! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳👏 And yes… we wish social media had a taste-test button! 😋🍤

💼🌟 Work-Based Learning Student Spotlight: Josie Cox! 🌟💼 Today we’re highlighting Josie Cox, a senior at TCHS who is gaining valuable real-world experience through our Work-Based Learning program! Josie works as an Assistant Bookkeeper at Sid's Trading Company on Highway 72 in Iuka. Josie has also taken Culinary Arts I and is a completer of our Health Science program here at TCCTC. She is definitely making the most of the opportunities available to prepare herself for life after high school. A BIG shoutout to Sid's Trading Company, which employs several of our students! 👏 Industry partners like Mr. Sid Whitehurst are so important to what we do. By opening their doors to our students, they provide opportunities to develop essential workplace skills, gain hands-on experience, build a résumé, earn a paycheck, and learn what it means to be part of a professional team — all while still in high school! And, of course, a special shoutout to our Work-Based Learning instructor, Ms. Crystal South, for helping connect our students with opportunities throughout the community and guiding them along the way. 🧯🔥 Hands-On Fire Safety Training! 🔥🧯 A huge thank you to Jesse Gwin, a recent Belmont High School graduate and completer of the Law & Public Safety program at TCCTC, for coming back to campus today to share his knowledge and experience with our students! Jesse is now an EMT and Lieutenant with the New Site Fire Department, and today he worked with our Culinary, Teacher Academy, and Law & Public Safety students to demonstrate the proper and safe way to use a fire extinguisher. We LOVE when our former students return to pour back into the programs that helped prepare them for their careers. It makes us especially proud to see a recent graduate already putting his skills to work, serving his community, and taking the time to help prepare the next generation of students. 🔥⚙️ Welding II is Back in the Shop! ⚙️🔥 Our Welding II students were excited to get back into the shop today and put their skills to work! Students worked on completing performance profiles for the Base Metal Preparation module of their NCCER National Certification. As part of their hands-on training, they practiced the proper and safe procedures for lighting and shutting down an oxyfuel torch as they prepare to begin cutting metal. This is what Career and Technical Education is all about — obtaining the knowledge, practicing the procedure, demonstrating the skill, and doing it all with SAFETY FIRST! 💪 A big thank you to their instructor, Mr. Blake Cass, for making sure our students learn the right way from the very beginning while preparing them for industry and future careers. We are thrilled to announce the arrival of THREE brand-new The Charlie Cart Project stations for our Culinary Arts program! These incredible mobile teaching kitchens are packed with everything our students need to build real-world culinary skills—from cooking and baking tools to food prep equipment. Each cart includes a sink, induction cooktop, griddle, and everything needed to help students explore the art and science of cooking and baking. Because these carts are mobile, they'll allow more students to participate in hands-on learning at the same time, creating even more opportunities to develop the skills they'll need for success in the workforce. A huge THANK YOU to the Tishomingo County School District Child Nutrition Program for writing the grant that made these carts possible, and a special shoutout to Director, Mary Beth Sheffield for her continued support of Career and Technical Education.
